Tips on Designing Your Dream Dress
When designing your dress it's important to know what you like and not just from looking at magazines but dresses that you have actually tried on. You may think you like one style from seeing it in a magazine, and in fact it could be gorgeous in person, but once you put the actual dress on, you may realize the dress wasn't as flattering on you as you hoped. It's important that you have an idea of the following items before scheduling a design appointment. 1. Color Depending on your complexion you may want to go with a lighter shade of white vs. a stark white. This would be a good option for fair colored brides. 2. Silhouette There are several different silhouettes available, mermaid, sheath, a-line, ballgown, and more. Try to get an idea of what compliments your figure the most 3. Train Length Some brides don't want a train at all and that is perfectly fine! Others may want just a slight sweep train, chapel length, and other Cathedral or Regal Cathedral! 4. Embellishments Are you going to want embroidery, beading, or another form of embellishment on the dress? Try to get an idea of what you are looking for and we can either design something for you with the pictures given to us, or replicate from those photos. 5. Neckline Sweetheart, semi-sweetheart, v-neck, scoop, there are many choices, again make sure to get an idea of what is most flattering for you! 6. Waistline A lot of the current styles feature a dropped rouched waistline while others go with the more traditional A-Line or Ballgown figure. Mermaids can really show your curves and are a very romantic style. 7. Sash Color If you are choosing to add a sash to your gown, are you going to want a splash of color on that sash? Or stay more traditional and go with a beaded or white satin sash. 8. Fabrics Be sure to get an idea of the fabrics you like, while not all fabrics are appropriate for all designs we may be able to find a similar fabric that will work best. Chiffons, traditional bridal satins, and pure silk are great choices! There are many items to think about during this process and its important not to feel overwhelmed. It really can be an enjoyable creative process for the bride and her family. Schedule an appointment with us today
